Coronavirus: China pushes full strength on war footing, premiered films; Disneyland off

Many films premiered in China

The premiere of major films has been canceled in many theaters in China. According to movie ticket company Mayon, the total collection of major theaters in the country on Saturday stood at Rs 1.81 million yuan (about Rs 1.87 crore) as compared to 1.46 billion euros (over Rs 1500 crore) during last year’s lunar holidays.

Hong Kong schools have extended holidays

Six cases have been confirmed in Hong Kong. Four of these came to Hong Kong via train. Flight and high-speed rail service between Hong Kong and Wuhan has been halted, Hong Kong CEO Carrie Lam said on Saturday. Schools already closed in Hong Kong due to the Lunar New Year holidays have been extended until February 17.

China bans wildlife business

China, facing difficulties due to the spread of Coronavirus, on Sunday banned the wildlife business on the country’s restaurants and e-commerce platforms. It is believed that the market for wild meat has spread its infection to humans. Meanwhile, the Global Virome Project, which is part of a global preparedness effort to avoid the epidemic, estimates that the organisms contain some 17 million unknown germs and that half of them are dangerous to humans.
