Corona outbreak also increased in Latin American prisons, 1400 prisoners and prison staff infected so far
Corona virus cases have started increasing in Latin American jails as well. More than 300 cases of corona in Latin America have been reported at the Puente Alto Prison in Santiago, Chile. Due to this 1,100 inmates are nervous because it is difficult to do social distancing here.
A prison prison staffer, Ximena Graniffo, stated that all of these people are in contact with each other. There are 1.5 million inmates in Latin American jails and due to shortage of staff, inmates are mostly employed. Apart from this, due to low budget, due to lack of water and soap and congestion in the cell, corona can spread rapidly here.
According to officials, so far, corona virus has been confirmed in 1400 prisoners and prison staff. Peru has the highest number of 613 cases reported in Latin America, out of which 13 people have died. However, the extent of testing to determine the full scale of infection varies across countries.
