Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is going to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, the second day of his mission of opposition unity in the country. Nitish Kumar, who went on a three-day visit to Delhi, had earlier met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday. Nitish Kumar has spoken of leaving petty controversies against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the bigger goal of opposition unity. At the same time, it has also been clarified that he is not in the race for the post of Prime Minister (Race for Opposition PM Face).
Nitish on the mission of strong opposition against BJP and Modi
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was with the BJP in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) until recently, is now the Chief Minister of the Mahagathbandhan government with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. Now they have started on the mission of strong opposition against BJP and PM Modi.
It is not easy to unite the opposition, giving priority to regional interests
It is not an easy task to build a strong national alternative against the BJP by putting the opposition parties together, giving priority to their respective regional interests. Prominent among regional parties are Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. Nitish Kumar will also have to join regional satraps like Lalu Prasad Yadav, Hemant Soren, Sharad Pawar, Jagan Mohan Reddy, Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Om Prakash Chautala and Parkash Singh Badal. Without the Congress, the national face of the opposition cannot be formed and many regional parties do not have good relations with the Congress, Nitish Kumar also knows.
Many big obstacles to ambition in the mission of a strong opposition
It is clear that the mission of opposition unity has many major impediments to local ambitions. But the way Nitish Kumar formed the government of Mahagathbandhan by ousting the BJP from the government in Bihar, it has increased his acceptance as a strong leader of the opposition across the country. Meanwhile, his name has also been tossed as the prime ministerial face of the opposition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Even on this, he has made it clear that he is not in the race for the post of Prime Minister.
Nitish met Rahul in Delhi yesterday, met Kejriwal today
At present, Nitish Kumar has started his mission by going to Delhi. Seeing the national face of the Congress, he met Rahul Gandhi on the first day of his Delhi tour. In this connection, he is meeting Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today.
Nitish and Arvind Kejriwal’s meeting is considered important
Nitish’s meeting with Arvind Kejriwal is considered important. It is difficult to ignore Om Prakash Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal in Haryana for opposition unity. Akali Dal’s Parkash Singh Badal can also come along with Chautala, but Arvind Kejriwal is the opponent of Badal in Punjab. In such a situation, Nitish Kumar can talk to Kejriwal on the politics of Punjab in his meeting today.
