This cinema hall in Srinagar has been closed for 28 years, its last show was the film ‘Coolie’
Bollywood and Kashmir’s relationship is very old. There were a total of 15 cinema halls in Kashmir in the 1980s, of which 9 were in Srinagar. It was the summer of 1989 when a fundamentalist group called Allah Tigers threatened to close the cinema halls of the Kashmir Valley. The terrorists had called cinema against Islam. Significantly, people in India consider the Ganges as a holy river, but for the film actor Shammi Kapoor , Dal Lake was like the Ganges River. He was so much in love with Dal Lake that according to his wish, his ashes were immersed in Dal Lake itself, but gradually the Rahu of terrorism eclipsed films in Kashmir. During 28 years, terrorism also sacrificed cinema halls.
The first time was on January 1, 1990, when not a single cinema hall was filmed in Kashmir. The Palladium Cinema located in Srinagar was one of the main theaters in Kashmir. There was a time when queues used to be seen here to watch films of actors like Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and and Raj Kapoor, but these pictures have now changed. The Palladium cinema is at Lal Chowk, but today people remember Lal Chowk, not the Platinum Cinema. The last film in this cinema hall was Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Coolie’. Although there were attempts to change the appearance of the silver screen in Kashmir, but continuous terrorist incidents neither made films nor allowed Kashmir to become a beautiful character of films, but after the end of Section 370, it is expected that the story of Kashmir film screen But once again it will be beautifully narrated.
PM Modi expressed the hope
, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned the relationship between Kashmir and cinema in his message. He told how Article 370 and terrorism had created a rift in this relationship. PM Modi has expressed the hope that Kashmir will once again become an international hub for shooting films. Until the 1960s, 70s and 80s, the identity of India remained on the screen of Kashmir cinema. The story of love started with the hunts of Kashmir, it used to reach the heights of the himalayas passing through the pine trees. The stories were filmy, but the character of Kashmir became immortal.
