The Chandrayaan 3 mission is a story of victory, inspiration, emotions, and triumphs. Every Indian is celebrating this success of the country. Chandrayaan 3 is the follow-up practice of Chandrayaan 2, and the missions successfully showed its capability of safe landing on the lunar surface. On 23 August 2023, India took a great leap and created history with a safe landing on the Moon’s south pole. India is the 1st country in the world to make a safe landing on the south pole of the moon.
In acknowledgment of this historic day, PM Narendra Modi has announced 23rd August as “National Space Day”. While addressing the ISRO scientists in Bengaluru, PM Modi also revealed the name of the landing site- the landing site of the Chandrayaan 3 will be known as ‘Shivshakti point’ while the crash landing site of the previous one, Chandrayaan 2 is going to be called as ‘Tiranga point’. Various officials of India have stated that this is not just a success in the field of science, this shows that India is making progress in every field. Let us dig deeper!
As mentioned above, the smooth landing of Chandrayaan 3 is a major achievement, as it made India the 1st and the only country to make a safe landing on the south pole. And, the 4th country to make a landing on the moon. Talking about the details of the Chandrayaan 3, the Pragyaan rover which was deployed from the Vikram lander was equipped with the essential instruments including spectrometers, cameras, and also a drill for investigations. Time is very essential for Chandrayaan 3 as it is led or we can say that powered by solar panels. The Chandrayaan is designed in a way to last a single lunar day which is 14 days. And, in this time span, it is expected to perform various experiments, incorporating a spectrometer analysis. It is an analysis related to the mineral composition on the lunar surface.
After a total span of 40 days, Chandrayaan 3 touched the surface of the moon. India has become the 4th country to accomplish such after the US, China, and the former Soviet Union. PM Modi met and congratulated all the ISRO scientists and applauded them for such a great victory. Talking about it, we cannot forget the fact that the country went through a flow of sadness when Chandrayaan 2 was not a success. Let us tell you that the ISRO scientists have lost contact with Chandrayaan 2 just about the lunar surface, approximately 2.1 kms.
Budget for Chandrayaan 3– If we talk about the budget of Chandrayaan 3 mission, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister has stated that this big mission that made the whole country proud was successfully accomplished with a budget of 600 crore INR. Another interesting thing about this low budget is that Elon Musk has tweeted that the budget of this successful mission is less than the budget of the Hollywood movie “Interstellar”, which is a sci-fi film by Christopher Nolan. He tweeted “Good for India”. Former Chief of ISRO, Madhavan Nair also mentioned that despite having such a big mission performed, all the scientists lead a very simple life, so it is a life-changing and proud experience for all of them.
It is essential to mention that in a conversation with ISRO, the officials mentioned that Chandrayaan 3 was launched with its 3 major objectives. The objectives are:
The officials have stated that all the payloads are working great. The space officials have also shared the images saying that “On 27 August, the rover came across a 4-meter diameter crater positioned 3 meters ahead of its location.” And, they also mentioned that the rover is now safely heading towards its new location.
Budding the legacy of ISRO, Chandrayaan 3 is an achievement, it has refined the progress. The mission has envisioned a successful future for India and also it has established the fact that human presence is accessible on the moon. The success story of India’s Chandrayaan 3 is not only entertained in India but all over the world, people are applauding the victory. It is great to mention that the Chandrayaan 3 mission will give a boost to the LUPEX (Lunar Polar Exploration Mission), which is a planned collaboration between ISRO and JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency). We can say that ISRO has defeated all the stereotypes and made every Indian proud. August 23 is a great day for Indian history.
