Chandrayaan 2: Why is this mission special for India?

Read Time:3 Minute, 3 Second

ISRO (ISRO) is going to take a second step towards its Moon mission on 2nd June at (Sunday, July 15). Under this lunar exploration mission (Moon Mission) today, Chandrayaan 2 will be launched from Sri Harikota of Andhra Pradesh. Chandrayaan 2 It is also special that India had the first moon mission of Chandrayaan 1. Which was launched in October 2008? Chandrayaan 1 was launched from Sri Harikota on October 22, 2008. He entered the Moon’s orbit on November 8, 2008.

Chandrayaan 2: Facts

Talking about Chandrayaan 2 mission, it got approval on September 18, 2008. About 8 years later, the test was started in 2016 for this mission. ISRO had announced this year about the launch of Chandrayaan 2 in May. For this, the timeline of 9 July to 16 July was fixed. The special feature of this mission is that it will have an orbiter, a lander (whose name has been named Vikram) and a rover (named as Pragyan). The main objective of this mission is to make soft-land and study its surface on the Moon. This mission will be the next stop for the earlier Moon mission.

Chandrayaan 2: Why is the mission special?

Chandrayaan 2 will be the first mission of the world, which will be a soft landing in the moon’s South Polar region. Not only this, it is India’s first mission that will have a soft landing on the surface of the moon with fully developed indigenous technology. With this mission, India will become the fourth country in the world to have a soft landing on the moon’s surface. Talking about the experiments, the payloads used in it will include topography, mineral identification (on the moon’s surface) and its distribution (dispersion), the thermo-physic character of the soil, the surface chemical composition and the atmosphere of the moon will study.

Chandrayaan 2: Specifications

Talk about Chandrayaan 2’s Lander Vikram, it will make Chandrayaan a safe land on the moon surface by 6th September. The life component of this project, Mission Components Orbiter, will be functional in about a year. The mission of Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover will be completed in a lunar day (14 days according to the Earth). Its orbiter carries out 8 scientific play loads, which will study the lunar surface (the surface of the moon). In addition to this, the orbiter will also get information about the environment of the moon.

Chandrayaan 2’s Lander Vikrama carries three scientific play loads. These play loads will make experiments about the Moon’s Surface and SubSparage. Talking about Rover Pragyan, there will be two play loads, which will go on to the moon to advance tests. Chandrayaan 2 will be sent to the Moon’s Orbit with the help of GSLV Mk-III, India’s most powerful launcher. If you talk about the capability of this launcher, then it can send 4 tons of satellites to GTO (Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit). Talking about its components, the three-stage launcher has been provided, including the S200 Solid Rocket Booster, L110 Liquid Stage and the C25 Upper Stage.

The weight of its orbiter is 2,379 kilograms, which can generate 1000W electric power. It is placed in a 100×100 km lunar polar orbit. The weight of Vikram Lander is 1,471 kg, which can generate 650W of electric power. Talking about 6 wheeled enlightened rovers, it weighs 27 kg, which can generate 50W electric power. It can travel up to 500 meters and depends on solar energy for functioning.
