The four leaders were sent to the Presidency Jail in the night itself. Now the case will be heard on Wednesday.

The CBI team reached the house of Minister Subrata Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim, and MLA Madan Mitra on Monday morning as well as a former minister and former Kolkata Mayor Shobhan Chatterjee. The Central Force was also accompanied by the CBI. The team brought the said four to the office at Nizam Palace. As soon as the information was received, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat in the office of the investigating agency. As soon as he reached there, he challenged and said that CBI will have to arrest me as well, otherwise, I will not leave from here. She exited the office at around 4:30 in the evening.

CBI reached the High Court

On the other hand, the CBI virtualized the four accused in the Municipal Court of the Court at Kolkata’s Bankshal Court from where they got bail at seven o’clock in the evening. However, CBI opposed the bail and demanded to be given on remand, terming all as influential, but the court rejected their pleas. Thereafter, the CBI reached the High Court in the night, where the court imposed a stay on the decision of the lower court and directed the four leaders to be sent to jail by Wednesday.

Different arguments regarding the action

Sources in the investigating agency have said that the Governor’s permission was required to take action against the four leaders and it was allowed by Governor Jagdeep Dhankar in the past. On the other hand, the Speaker of the Bengal Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee said that CBI has taken this action without his permission. He also called the Governor’s approval illegal in this regard.

Matthew welcomed the arrest

Matthew Samuel, who performed the Narada sting operation, welcomed the arrest of the four leaders. However, he has also questioned the arrest of Suvendu Adhikari and Mukul Roy.

TMC activists targeted security forces

In protest against the arrest of the party leaders, TMC activists also took to the road, flouting the rules of complete lockdown and started fiercely in the entire state including Kolkata since morning. Stones and bottles were thrown at central security forces outside the CBI office in Kolkata. The barricades broke. In such a situation, the central force had to be lathi-charged to control the situation.

Governor expressed concern over stone-pelting

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has expressed concern after being stoned by TMC activists. He tweeted and wrote that there was a stone-pelting outside the CBI office, but the Kolkata Police remained a mute spectator.
