Canada Introduces New Visa Programme for Indian Students Seeking Admission in 2018
On June 8, 2018, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) programme was replaced the Student Partnership Programme (SPP) in India. This change was also for existing facilitation programme for students coming from China, Philippines and Vietnam. As per the current SPP in India, it is restricted to students looking forward to study at one 40-post secondary institutions in Canada. However, with the SDS, students can go for any Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. This includes public funded and private post-secondary institution.
More about SDS:
The introduction of SDS is aimed to offer faster and simpler visa processing to international high calibre students who have the potential to reside permanently in Canada. Moreover, it will open up avenues for international students going for Designated Learning Institution (DLI). With this introduction, applicants can expect the processing time of 45 days or less. This will inspire students to visit Canada for higher studies.
Students who are applying through SDS will need to provide proof of acceptance by eligible post-secondary DLI and payment of their tuition fees.
There is a minimum requirement of IELTS with the score of 6.0 in all categories. According to the Nadir Patel, Canadian High Commissioner to India, “Canada has quickly become the preferred destination for Indian students looking for a high quality international education. It provides a world-class education in a safe and welcoming environment at a competitive and affordable cost”.
