Black fungus does not spread due to contact with an infected patient

There are many misconceptions in the minds of people regarding black fungus. People have started seeing it like a corona epidemic, whereas there is nothing like it. Dr. Randeep Guleria, director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has made the situation very clear about this. They say that black fungus is a fungal infection that does not spread through contact with an infected patient. According to him, one of the biggest reasons for this is the lack of immunity of the patient. Such people and those corona-infected patients are feared to have this disease.

According to Dr. Guleria, this fungal infection mainly occurs in the nose, eye, and bones around it and from here it reaches the patient’s brain, which later becomes dangerous. Apart from this, sometimes it is also found in the lungs and stomach. According to him, fungus is already present inside the body, but due to better immunity, it does not harm the body. But as the immunity of our body decreases, these fungal infections start attacking certain parts of the body. They are always looking for opportunities and start their work as soon as they get the chance.

They have an easy target soft tissue. Their color changes after a fungal attack on them. Based on these colors, they are named as black, yellow, and white fungal infections. Doctors believe that due to the effect of mucor, the color of the tissue becomes black, hence it is called a black fungus. Apart from this, white or gray color changes are seen due to the effect of fungal in the mouth and elsewhere, due to which it is called a white fungus. Doctors conduct an MRI to examine it, in which damage to the soft tissue is assessed. In addition, it is also investigated for bone loss.
