Anna Hazare begins yet another Hunger Strike: Here’s all you need to know about his demands this time
Social Activist Kisan Baburao Hazare aka Anna Hazare, best known as the mentor, guide and teacher of Arvind Kejriwal, has yet again gone for an indefinite hunger strike from today morning at Ramlila Maidan at Delhi. Ramlila Maidan is the same place where his revolution against anti-corruption body caught the whole country’s attention in the year 2011 sowed the seeds for the growth of the Aam Admi Party. However, his first hunger strike and revolution was against the Congress-led UPA government back then who was at the Government authority. And now, he is targeting the Modi led BJP Government.
Let us have a look at the key demands of Anna Hazare this time-
Jan Lokpal Bill – Also known as the Citizen Ombudsman Bill, the Jan Lokpal Bill is the anti-corruption bill which is drawn by the prominent society activist seeking the appointment of a Jan Lokpal which is an independent body that investigates corruption cases and complete the investigation within a year. This bill was introduced in the year 2011 by Anna, however, never got fully implemented.
The Lokayuktas– Lokayuktas is an anti-corruption organization within all states. Once implemented, any Government cannot dismiss or transfer the Lokayuktas and it can only be removed by passing an impeachment motion in a state assembly.
Swaminatham Commission Report – Professor Swaminatham, who was chairing the National Commission of Farmers submitted back in the year 2004, submitted five reports within the year 2004-2006 which focused on the cause of farmer distress and the cause of their suicides and also recommended a holistic policy of farmers.
