Read Time:3 Minute, 45 Second

Introduction:

The Adani Group, one of the biggest business conglomerates in India, has always made it to the headlines because of its extraordinary work in the energy sector. Its outstanding contribution to Bangladesh’s power sector has been one of its biggest achievements. Adani’s Bangladesh project has also helped the Adani Group to make a global presence in the energy sector. The Group’s constant efforts have helped Bangladesh in meeting its energy needs. It has also paved the path for prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.

Adani’s Contributions in Bangladesh:

The Adani Group has developed a portfolio of world-class power infrastructure in Bangladesh, which means the country no longer has to suffer from energy scarcity. The projects have also increased industrial activities and opened up numerous job opportunities for the people of Bangladesh.

Over the past few years, Bangladesh has been struggling to meet its power demands. While the demand is for , it is only able to meet 14,000 to 14,500 MW. Although the country had tremendous potential for growth, it was not able to meet its full power needs because of the lack of a consistent supply of energy. Because of this, Bangladesh’s economy was negatively affected. The industrial activities could not be carried out with full force.

Initiatives Taken to Bring About Energy Security in Bangladesh:

In order to help Bangladesh get rid of its energy deficiency, the Adani Group decided to inaugurate its first transnational project, which would help Bangladesh meet its energy demands. The Adani Group has built a power plant in Jharkhand’s Godda district, which will offer electricity to Bangladesh for 25 years. Bangladesh signed a power contract with the Adani Group in 2017 for the project. The coal-based power plant in Jharkhand has a total capacity of 1,600 MW.

The Bangladesh Power Development Board, can buy a maximum of 1,496 MW of electricity from the Adani Group. This will help satisfy Bangladesh’s current electricity demands. The electricity will also be supplied at a lower cost, further strengthening Bangladesh’s economic situation. The people will be able to lead their lives with greater ease and convenience. The plant offers an everyday supply of 1,200 to 1,400 MW of electricity to Bangladesh.

The Adani Godda Power Plant:

The Godda Power Plant was set up by Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited, a part of the diversified Adani Group. The Adani Bangladesh project received the Commercial Operations Date of its second unit of 2×800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant on 26th June 2023. The reliability run test, which included various commercial operation tests, was completed on 25th June 2023 in the presence of Power Grid Corporation of Bangladesh and BPDB officials.

On 6th April 2023, the first unit of the plant also achieved its Commercial Operations Date. This unit had a manufacturing capacity of 800 MW. This power supply will enhance energy security and bring about improvements in the lives of the people. The power will be supplied to the nation’s grid through a 400 kV dedicated transmission system. This ensures that the energy is transmitted with a high level of efficiency and minimum wastage. The project had a positive impact on Bangladesh’s economic condition. It led to the replacement of costly power generated from liquid fuel.

The Impact of the Godda Power Plant:

The Godda power plant served as a symbol of growth between the Adani Group and Bangladesh. It paved the path for more future collaborations between the two neighbouring countries. Although the project operations were largely affected by the three phases of COVID-19 waves in India, it became operational within the shortest period. The project also introduced state-of-the-art ultra-supercritical technology to the power sector. The Adani Group also ensured that the various project operations were carried out in an environmentally friendly manner. Various highly advanced forms of technology, like Selective Catalytic Converters and Flue Gas Desulphurisers, were installed in the plant to minimise the level of carbon emissions.

Conclusion:

In this way, the Adani Bangladesh project was a massive step forward for the Adani Group in expanding its global boundaries. It has also led to international collaboration. With time, we will continue to witness the Adani Group become a part of more such international projects. This will not only give our country excellent exposure on a global scale but will also help the Adani Group in achieving its dream of global expansion.
