The state of Maharashtra has recorded 522 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Monday. He further added that Maharashtra witnessed 27 coronavirus-related deaths between Sunday night and Monday evening.

With these developments, the total number of confirmed cases in the state rise to 8,590. This figure is inclusive of a total of 369 casualties to date.

In the last 24 hours, the city of Mumbai reported 369 new cases of Covid-19. This takes the total number of confirmed cases in the city to 5,776 to date. At the same time, Mumbai recorded 15 coronavirus-related deaths between Sunday night and Monday evening. With this development, the number of Covid-19 casualties in Mumbai has climbed to 219.

In addition to Mumbai, Amravati recorded six deaths, Pune four, and Jalgaon and Aurangabad one death each in the last 24 hours.

The Maharashtra government’s Health Department revealed that 15 of the patients who succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours were men while the remaining 12 were women. While 13 of these casualties were aged above 60, 8 were aged between 40 and 59, and 6 were below 40 years of age.

Out of the 27 casualties recorded in the last 24 hours in the state, 22 were patients with co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart diseases, or TB among others. One was an HIV patient and another was suffering from cancer.

As many as 1,12,552 samples out of 1,21,562 sent for Covid-19 testing returned negative in Maharashtra while 8,590 have tested positive to date. The health department added that 1,282 Covid-19 patients in the state have recovered as on Monday while another 1,45,677 are in-home quarantine and 9,399 in institutional quarantine.
