Under the guise of stopping the spread of the coronavirus, the Chinese government has taken a strategic decision. The Chinese government has shut down the Potala Palace, the official residence of the Buddhist guru Dalai Lama in Tibet, from today to indefinite. China says that the Potala Mahal has been closed to prevent the dreaded coronavirus infection. The Potala Palace has been a cultural and religious center for Buddhists. The Chinese government has not clarified how long the Potala Palace will be closed.

80 dead, 3000 people vulnerable

So far 80 people have died due to the corona virus in China, while around 3000 people are in the grip of this disease. China’s Health Minister has said that the new virus is dangerous and is spreading rapidly. Wuhan city of China is the center of this disease. From here, this disease spread all over the world.

The main attraction of Tibet is the Potala Palace

Potala Palace is the main attraction of tourists in Tibet. A large number of tourists visit here every year. The Chinese government has said that the decision to close the Potala Palace has been taken to stop the movement of people on a large scale so that the disease cannot spread further. China has asked all travel agencies not to sell tickets to domestic and foreign airlines.

Center of Buddhism

The Dalai Lama’s palace is about 13 floors high. It has more than a thousand rooms. About two lakh statues are located in this palace. During the Tibet-China conflict, this palace suffered a lot of damage. The palace remained a major center of Buddhist faith until 1959, with Buddhists coming here for cultivation and worship, but the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso came to India during the battle with China. After this, the palace has the right of Chinese rule. In 1961, China declared it a cultural monument of national importance.

However, despite the Chinese occupation, Tibetan Buddhists remain emotional and religiously attached to this palace. The Buddhist Guru Dalai Lama, who is living in exile from Tibet and millions of Buddhists living all over the world, has been fighting for years against the Chinese occupation in Tibet.
