Australia bowled out for 185 on Sunday, on the fifth and final day of the fourth Test match of the Ashes series played at Old Trafford ground in Manchester, on the back of their bowlers’ superb performance led by fast bowler Pat Cummins (four wickets for 43 runs). After retaining the Ashes, they retained their hold on the Ashes. Australia had won the Ashes series last time and this time too, they have now taken a 2–1 lead. After this victory, the Ashes will now remain intact with Australia. If the England team now wins the fifth and final Test match, then it can only equal the series 2-2, but it cannot take away the Ashes from Australia.

Australia had declared their first innings by scoring 497 runs for eight wickets and then they were all out for 301 in their first innings to take a lead of 196 runs. Australia declared 186 runs for six wickets in their second innings and set a target of 383 runs for victory in front of England.

In response to this goal, hosts England were all out for 197 runs in 91.3 overs and thus Australia won the fourth Test match by 185 runs. England started playing at 166 for six after tea. The hosts lost their most valuable wicket as Butler. Butler was bowled by Josh Hazlewood. Butler scored 111 off 111 balls with the help of four fours. Butler’s wicket fell to a score of 172.

After Butler was dismissed, the hosts scored eighth as Jofra Archer (1) at 173, ninth as Jack Leach (12) at 196, and Craig Overton (21) as 197. Lost 10th wicket. In his second innings for hosts England, Joe Denley scored the highest 53 runs. Apart from him, Jason Roy contributed 31 runs, Johnny Bairstow 25 and Ben Stokes and Joffra Archer contributed one run each. Opener Rory Burns and captain Joe Root were dismissed without opening an account.

For Australia, Pat Cummins took four wickets in the second innings, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood took two each, while Mitchell Starc and Marnus Labuschen took one wicket each. Australian batsman Steven Smith, who scored a double century in the first innings of the match, received the Man of the Match award for his brilliant innings.
