Pakistan and India will hold the next high-level talks on the proposed Kartarpur corridor for Sikh devotees on Wednesday.

This has been said in a media report. According to the news of ‘Express Tribune’, on September 4, this meeting will be held on the Wagah-Attari border towards India.

It is expected that in the said meeting, the two countries will finalize the draft agreement to open the corridor.

The proposed corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan to Dera Baba Nanak Gurdwara in Gurdaspur district and will facilitate the visa-free movement of Indian Sikh devotees.

These devotees only need a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, founded in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.

The meeting will take place four days after technical experts from India and Pakistan negotiate the Kartarpur corridor.

This is the first such meeting to be held after the latest tensions between the two neighbors after India abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting, held on Friday, lasted for nearly two hours in which both sides spoke of “good progress” on the technical aspects of the proposed Kartarpur corridor.

The Pakistani delegation will be led by Dr. Muhammad Faizal, Director General of South Asia and SAARC and Foreign Office Spokesperson in the September 4 meeting.

According to the newspaper, “The deliberations will begin at 10 am. Both countries have agreed that through the corridor, Pakistan will allow 5,000 Sikh devotees to enter the country every day. ”

This corridor will be the first visa-free corridor between the two neighboring countries since the independence of both countries in 1947.

Pakistan is constructing the corridor from the Indian border to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib while the other part of the border from Dera Baba Nanak will be constructed by India.

India is constructing a bridge at Zero Point and has urged Pakistan to construct a similar bridge on its side which will provide safe movement to pilgrims and address concerns related to floods. This bridge is over a drain, most of which falls in Pakistan.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have increased after India abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

After India’s move over Kashmir, Pakistan had expelled the Indian High Commissioner, curtailing diplomatic relations with New Delhi.
