Khartoum: 23 people including 18 Indians were killed and 130 were injured in a massive explosion in an LPG tanker at a ceramic factory in Sudan. The Indian Embassy gave this information here on Wednesday. Sixteen Indians are missing after an accident at the Silla Ceramic Factory in Bahri area of the national capital Khartoum on Tuesday. The Indian embassy issued a statement saying, ‘According to the latest but unconfirmed report, 18 have died. Some missing people may be among the dead, whose information is not yet known because the bodies were burnt.
The embassy on Wednesday released a detailed list of Indians who are in hospital, missing or survived the tragedy. According to the data, seven people are in the hospital, out of which four are in critical condition. Thirty-four remaining Indians are living in the houses of the Salumi Ceramics factory. Initial reports have revealed the lack of necessary safety equipment at the scene. The Sudan government said, ‘Flammable materials were improperly stored there due to which the fire spread.’ He said that the investigation of the case is going on.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted, “The explosion in the ceramic factory on the outskirts of Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, has just been reported. Some Indian workers have also died in this incident and some are seriously injured. It is deeply saddened to receive this information.
He wrote in the next tweet, ‘Embassy representatives have reached the spot. A 24-hour hotline + 249-921917471 has been established by the Indian Embassy in Khartoum. The embassy is also giving the latest information on social media. We are praying for the employees (of the factory) and their families.
