13 died, including children in airstrikes in rebel stronghold in Syria

The Syrian army has been on the offensive in Idlib and its surroundings since 30 April in a Russia-backed campaign.

At least 13 people, including many children, were killed in Russia’s suspected airstrikes on the gathering of displaced people in the last stronghold of the US. Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war in Syria, said it was suspected that the Russian plane was attacked on Friday. The attack took place in the town of Haas in the south of Idlib province where people displaced by the violence had gathered. The monitoring group said that at least four children died in the attack. Another Thika news agency also reported the attack and stated the death toll as 13. The Syrian army has been on the offensive in Idlib and its surrounding areas since 30 April in a campaign backed by Russia. In the recent times, conflict has increased in the area. About 3 million people live in Idlib and surrounding areas occupied by the rebels. 450 in recent weeks, More than 000 people were displaced in the area while more than 500 civilians died. Violence continues despite appeals from the United Nations and aid groups.

Significantly, last Friday, 100 fighters were killed in a clash between pro-government forces, rebels and jihadists in Syria. The information was given by an organization monitoring the war, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had said that the conflict began in the early hours of Friday after the bombing of pro-Syrian forces fighting in northern Hama province. In this, 50 personnel of pro-government forces and allied militias were killed. The number of rebels and jihadists who lost their lives is 45.

The Observatory of Britain had said that the struggle continued till noon. Syria’s official news agency ‘Sana’ reported the bombing on Friday. Snaa reported that military units in the early hours bombed the bases of the terrorist organization Al-Nusra Front in and around Jibin and Tal Maleh villages. It said that the whereabouts of the terrorists and their defense system were destroyed in the bombing. In response to this, the news agency had said that in response to this, terrorists carried out attacks targeting villages and cities in Hama.

Turkey’s Defense Ministry said on Friday that a day earlier, pro-Syrian forces fired against Turkish surveillance posts in Idlib province, killing Turkish soldiers and injuring three others.
