Kumar has a wonderful record in the name of Mr. Ranjit Singhji. This Indian veteran, who played in the British team, made history today (22 August) in 1896.

Ranjit Singhji

Kumar, Ranjit Singhji, one of the greatest cricketers in India, has a wonderful record. This Indian veteran, who played in the British team, made history today (22 August) in 1896. In fact, he did the task of scoring two centuries in a single day in first-class cricket.

Ranjit Singhji then scored an unbeaten 154 runs a month earlier, making his Test debut for England (July 1896) and continuing the same form, playing for Sussex in the English city of Hove on the same day against Yorkshire. Had played two centuries (100 and 125 not out) innings.

Did the act while playing for Sussex

Yorkshire scored 407 runs in their first innings, playing first. In response, Sussex’s team collapsed for 191 despite Ranjit Singhji’s century (100 runs) on the third day and could not save the follow-on. After this, Ranjit Singhji again scored an unbeaten 125 runs in the follow-on innings and showed the charisma of scoring two centuries in a single day. Sussex scored 260/2 to save the match thanks to Ranjit Singhji’s century.

FACTS –

With this, he became the third batsman of Sussex to score two centuries in a single match. But more than this, in First-Class cricket, he became the only cricketer to score two centuries on the same day.

– No batsman has done such a feat in first-class cricket since Ranjit Singhji. However, playing for Western Australia, Matthew Eliot scored 104 runs on 31 December 1995 and 135 runs in the follow-on innings thereafter. Then Eliot was unbeaten after scoring 98 runs in the first innings a day earlier. For this reason, Elliot’s centuries cannot be compared to Ranjit Singhji.

Yes, Spanish batsman, Tariq Ali Awan scored an unbeaten 150 and 148 runs on 4 September 2012 in the European Championship Division-2 T20 on the same day. Then Tariq scored 150 not out from 66 balls against Estonia and 148 in the semi-final against Portugal in the next match on the same day. However, his team missed out on the final.
